At Omfs Inc we provide a comprehensive range of services, including (but not limited to) extractions, removal of wisdom teeth, implant surgery, orthognathic surgery, biopsies, TMJ, bone grafting and pre-prosthetic surgery.

Our patients are referred to us by their dentist or physician to address a certain concern. The first visit is comprised of a consultation with Dr. Ross to examine x-rays, diagnose the issue, and discuss potential treatment options. Sometimes the consultation and procedure are booked together; our staff need to know ahead to book appropriate times.

To learn more about a certain procedure rendered often in our clinic, refer to the list below. For a full list of all services performed by Dr. Ross, please visit the official website of the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Pre-Prosthetic Surgery

You may require a minor oral surgery procedure before receiving a denture in order to make it fit easily. A denture sits on a bone ridge and it’s important that the bone is the proper shape and size. If a tooth needs to be extracted the bone underneath might be uneven and therefore must be gently smoothed down, or reshaped. Sometimes excess bone needs to be removed as well so that your denture fits comfortably. To prepare your mouth for a denture you may need: bone smoothing or reshaping, removal of excess bone or gum tissue, or exposure of impacted teeth.

Bone Grafting

There are two types of bone grafting: minor and major. With time your jaw atrophies due to missing teeth, injuries, or gum disease. This leaves a condition of poor quantity and quality of bone to place dental implants. Bone grafts are done to repair the implant site ahead, so that your implants give you the best functionality and natural appearance. Bone is obtained from a tissue bank (allograft bone), or your own bone (autogenous) which can be harvested from your mandible (jaw), tibial plateau (knee) Sinus bone grafts replace bone in the posterior upper jaw. Guided bone regeneration or guided tissue regeneration is done by placing resorbable collagen membranes, or goretex membranes under the gum along with either allogenic bone or dense reservable collagen plugs, to encourage bone regeneration.

Major bone grafting is done to repair defects in the mandible caused by tumours, traumatic injury, or congenital defects. A patient’s own bone is used from different sites such as the iliac crest, tibia, rib, mandible, or cranium for these large defects. These procedures are done by Dr. Ross at Valley Regional Hospital under general anesthesia and may require hospitalization post-operatively.
